30/08/2011 - HORNSEA RESCUE TOUGHEST RESCUE EVER

IT WAS supposed to be a day of fundraising for Hornsea Inshore rescue.
Instead, the lifeboat crew were called out on a rescue described by one volunteer as the toughest he had ever been involved in.
LIFESAVERS: Hornsea Inshore lifeboat crew were called out on a dramatic rescue.
A couple from South Yorkshire who were walking their two dogs became cut off by the tide at Mappleton, near Hornsea, yesterday at 3.30pm.
The crew arrived on the scene to face a rough sea with waves up to 12ft-high crashing against the cliffs after the couple dialled 999 on a mobile phone.
The water was already up to chest height when the rescuers arrived and with their new inshore Humber Ocean Pro 6.0m lifeboat, Emily Laura, as near to the cliffs as possible, three crew members had to swim to the couple.
The couple from Doncaster, who wish to remain anonymous, were uninjured but said the crew had "saved their lives".
Training officer Neville Metcalf, who has been a member of the charity for several years, said: "This is definitely the toughest rescue since I've been a member of the team."
The couple were taken to safety on a jet bike before being transferred to the lifeboat and taken to the boat house to warm up.
Their two dogs, Oscar and Indie were also rescued.
Sue Hickson-Marsay, chairman of Hornsea Inshore Rescue, said: "I am just so proud of all our crew who dealt with this really difficult rescue so skillfully.
"The young lady was extremely distressed and had to be handled with great care and consideration in an extreme emergency situation."
